SYNOPSIS
Clota and Stella are mother and daughter living together in an old family house. Their bond is blurred and they seem doomed to be joined, clinging, confined to one another in a suffocating routine. Stella's attempts at becoming independent have been weak and Clota hasn't done much to help her.
One day Stella receives some news: her estranged father has died and left her two apartments in a desolate seaside town as inheritance. Stella sees the inheritance as a chance for a new life, and decides to set out on a trip to to finally become independent. But Clota wants to sell them and live well for a few years. Seeing no way out of it, Stella agrees to travel with her mother. But when Clota discovers Stella's true intentions, she perceives it as a surgical and terrifying separation.
DIRECTOR'S BIO
Paula Hernández (Argentina, 1969) studied at the Universidad del Cine de Buenos Aires, was a fellow of the Berlinale Talent Campus, and has received funds from Visions Sud Est Fund, Global Film Initiative, Equinoxe TBC, Berlinale Co-production Market. Her filmography includes the award-winning films Herencia (2001), Lluvia (2008), and The Sleepwalkers (2019), which had its world premiere at TIFF (Platform Competition), and was
selected among others for the San Sebastian Film Festival (HL), AFI Fest, Chicago International Film Festival, and Festival of the New Latin American Cinema of Havana, where it received the Coral Award for Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Actress.
